DESCRIPTION

The Property :

La Clairière du Moulin, is a charmingly renovated, original, Savoyard mill and farmhouse, which dates back to the 18th century. Its construction is thought to be around 1770 by the Martin family, who continued to own the property until 2001. The house is set within almost 5 ha (11 acres) of parkland, forest and gardens, in an incomparable, natural location at the foot of the spectacular Massif de l’Epine on the edge of the Chartreuse Natural Regional Park and looks out over the turquoise waters of Lake Aiguebelette, a kilometer away.

Situation and Surroundings :

Located in the foothills of the Alps, we are at the foot of a 1 km cliff face of the Mont Grêle to the east, overlooking the turquoise and emerald green waters of Lac d’Aiguebelette to the west. We are situated 24 km from Chambéry, just 9 minutes’ drive from the A43 (the Lyon - Chambéry autoroute) above the quite lakeside villages of Aiguebelette le Lac and Lépin le Lac.

La Clairière du Moulin is a great place to stay for a holiday or weekend break and in winter makes an ideal stopover on route to and from the ski resorts being 1hr 30 minutes to 2 hours from the major French ski bases of the Three Valleys, La Plagne, Les Arcs, Val d’Isere/Tignes, Valloire. etc.

La Clairiere du Moulin is in the newly designated eco-touristic region of Lac d’Aiguebelette set against the backdrop of the Chartreuse Natural Regional Park on the edge of the Chartreuse mountain range.

The grounds and fields are surrounded on three sides by forest to the north, east and south, but the property has a view over the Lac d’Aiguebelette, a kilometer to the west. The house faces due south, the open grounds making full use of the sun.

Lac d’Aiguebelette is considered the cleanest (motor boats are not allowed) and warmest, natural lake in Western Europe, water temperatures rise to 28°C during the summer months. Its surrounding area offers nature lovers, outdoor enthusiasts and families a host of diverse activities, including rowing, fishing, paragliding, kayaking, hire of bikes and boats, etc. The lake is also encircled by seven beaches, each with glorious views and providing varying facilities including watersports, restaurants and beach cafés.

Nature : Buzzards are seen daily in and/or around the property, along with many other birds and although rarely seen by us, there are traces of numerous wild animals passing through the property at nighttime, including badger and various species of deer.

Walking : Ramblers can walk directly from the property onto the marked paths up to the summit of the Mont Grêle (alt. 1425 m) inside the Natural Regional Park.
